Life is a journey, not a destination

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Think of these two words: Airports & Aeroplanes. What comes to your mind? The long queues? Long walk to your Departure Gate? Crying babies? The annoying passenger sitting next to you?

Personally, I find that the system of aviation, which consists of multiple aspects including airports and aeroplanes, nothing short of a wonder. The complicated system of transferring passengers from one place to another, handling their luggage and ensuring enough meals are prepared for them during their flight is not a task for the faint-hearted. I like to watch a couple of TV series related to aviation to learn more about the sophisticated system that keeps humanity moving globally.

The first series is called Ultimate Airport Dubai, aired by National Geographic and the second is called Heathrow: Britain's Busiest Airport, aired by ITV.

Both of these TV series gives us a glimpse behind-the-scenes look at the different aspects that keep the world's two busiest international airports running.

My favourite aircraft, which I hope to fly in someday in the future, is the Airbus A380-800.

What I like about this aircraft is its sheer size and how it dwarfs other types of wide-body aircraft.

As a Singaporean, it makes me proud to know that our flag carrier, Singapore Airlines, was the first airline to fly this engineering marvel back in 2007.

If there is one airport I wish to visit, it has to the Istanbul New Airport.

Inaugurated recently in October 2018, this airport consists of 6 runways and is capable of handling up to 150 million passengers a year. To give you a perspective, Changi Airport welcomed 62.2 million passengers back in 2017.
