Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world. - Gustav Flauber

Ever since I could remember, I love travelling. The thought of flying away to a far-flung place never fails to amaze me. From watching many travel vlogs on YouTube, I learn from them that travelling teaches you more about the world than any textbook or classroom.

Having said that, there are some cities in my bucket list that I wish to see within the next decade. All six of these cities are in six different continents, some of which may not as familiar as compared to the rest. So pack your suitcase, grab your passport and book a flight to one of these cities during your next vacation!

1. Cape Town, South Africa

Affectionately known as The Mother City, Cape Town is located at the southwestern tip of South Africa. It is known for its lovely beaches and natural landscapes. One of the natural landscapes which I would like to visit there is known as the Table Mountain. Climbing this mountain comes with the reward of a breathtaking view of not just the city, but two oceans, namely the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.

2. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Hosts of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, Rio de Janeiro is a bustling city known for its beaches, festivals and people. If I ever get the chance to visit this magnificent city, I would like to visit the Christ the Redeemer. It is a statue of Jesus with His arms outstretched in the form of a cross, overlooking the city of Rio.

I would also like to visit the Maracana Stadium, which is where the final match of the FIFA World Cup between Germany and Argentina took place in 2014.

3. San Francisco, USA

Golden Gate Bridge

Also known as the City by the Bay, San Francisco is known for being the cultural and financial capital of the West Coast.

One of the famous tourist attractions of the City by the Bay is none other than the Golden Gate Bridge, which was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its opening in 1937.

Other attractions in San Francisco include Coit Tower, Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz Island.

4. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea lies the Croatian city of Dubrovnik. Known for its breathtaking sea view and beautiful architecture, it is no wonder that Dubrovnik is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea.

If I had the opportunity to visit this city one day, I would like to visit the Walls of Dubrovnik overlooking the sea as well as the Old City.

5. Sydney, Australia

Being the most popular city for tourists to visit Down Under, Sydney boasts many popular tourist attractions such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

Sydney is also famous for its beaches, the most famous being Bondi Beach.

Given the chance, I would like to visit the Blue Mountains in Sydney. It is known for its Three Sisters rock formation.

6. Baku, Azerbaijan

When people think of Asia, they tend to think of Far East Asian nations such as China, Japan or South Korea. One of the quieter and less famous regions in this continent is Central Asia.

One city I hope to visit in Central Asia is Baku, the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan. Over there, I would like to visit The Flame Towers, a gleaming set of skyscrapers in the middle of the capital.
